So I am thinking about Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and have already been told by a lawyer that I qualify based on income to debt ratio. I have over $20k in medical debt for my daughter alone and about $10k for myself, $7k in credit cards, $6k in collections, and my car just got repoed which I will end up owing $7k-11k depending on what they sell it at auction for for that. I also have about $3.5k in payday loans. So a total of about $53.5k-$57.5k in debt. I do not own literally anything besides the clothes my daughter and I have and maybe $1,500 worth of furniture total. Im a single mom with full custody of my special needs 4 year old and i have been told I should just file for bankruptcy for a clean slate, but I am terrified to do it. I see a lot of happy ending type stories on this thread and im inching closer to doing it, but im scared I will regret it. I think my 2 biggest things im worried about is im renting and scared i wont be able to find anywhere to move to if they tell us at our current house we have to move (its a month to month lease. They will not offer leases longer than month to month) and I have read that people’s banks have froze on them after filing and they dont have access to their money. How do I go around this or is it common? I just opened up a bank account with Wells Fargo 3 months ago but don’t have any “debt” through them. No loans, credit cards, etc from Wells Fargo. I just get my paychecks direct deposited there and pay my bills, buy groceries, etc. Through that account.. I keep running number and I found a debt management plan place and they included all my credit cards, collections, closed accounts, etc. In their plan and I would pay $602 month for 2 1/2 years and then all would get paid off (I know this website is legit because it was referred to me from a financial advisor. Its a non-profit organization that government funded). If i did this, I would literally have like $50 NET of wiggle room a month to work with (after estimating, bills, daycare, gas, food, etc. On what we normally spend) but if I filed bankruptcy I would actually be able to save $400-$500 each month….
