I’ve been following this sub since February 2025 (literally, the reason for my username) about when my finances became disorganized.
Within the last two weeks, there has been a noticeable increase of “yippie yay bankruptcy was easy lolz” posts. These posts seem to be posted for engagement only and often do not have any credible details. They do not answer these questions in their post, but seem to talk around the answer in the comments: What bankruptcy was filed? What state? What amount? Did you keep your vehicle and/or home?
How did these people rebuild credit so fast? What was the income? Did they have a cosigner? These are significant factors in rebuilding.
IDK its not all sunshine and rainbows. There are consequences to bankruptcy that seem to be sugarcoated or avoided altogether in these posts. There is a reason why most people avoid bankruptcy, and there is an entire separate forum for people dedicated to paying 6-figure debts instead of filing. There are consequences.
IDK. I guess I’m on edge after learning about social media literacy. It just feels weird. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention, but I genuinely don’t remember reading so much enthusiasm for something so financially damning and life changing.
