We recently had a judgment from a lawsuit we didn’t even know existed, which quickly led to wage garnishment. In a panic, we hired the first bankruptcy attorney we could find to help stop the garnishment and get our finances under control. Stupidly we followed our attorney’s advice and were told not to pay rent that month and to include it in the bankruptcy filing. Since then, our landlord has refused to accept any payments even when we tried to pay and has now filed a motion for relief from the automatic stay.
Now we are extremely worried about eviction and are trying to find a new place to live, but we’re getting denied by many apartments due to the recent bankruptcy filing. The stress of this situation has been overwhelming.
I have my 341 meeting next Thursday, and I’m just really scared about what could happen next. We have a small child, and keeping a stable home for them is our top priority.
If anyone has been through something similar or has advice on how to handle this situation, I would truly appreciate it.
