I filed Chapter 7 myself for my wife and I in early 2024 and it was discharged shortly thereafter. Only had 2 creditors, a small personal loan (I had no problem paying), and Progressive Insurance sued us and got a $25,000 judgement…got a new vehicle, fixing it up before adding to insurance, wife didn’t know and drove it & got in a minor accident. Immediately after judgement the lawyer let the DMV know and our driver’s licenses were suspended till we pay the $25k… filing bankruptcy removed the suspension immediately.

Anyways, at the time we filed my lovely wife had some court fines from a couple of cases before we met, owing around $5,000 total. Cases (last in 2015) are basically closed (no future court dates) but the fines remain (and still do)…and so couldn’t be added to the bankruptcy.

Since then the fines are still there…no contact at all in the 8 years I’ve known her from the court about them. 2 weeks ago she got a call from a collection company about the fines, she texted me asking about the bankruptcy and when it was discharged… the collection company said there might be something we could do. Is this true? The court would be the Creditor, correct?

Thanks for any help you may have
