Hello everyone, just wanted to share my story in hopes that it can give others a peace of mind. I (29 M) had about 80k in debt which was a mix between credit card debt and student loans. About 4 years ago I had taken out a personal loan to pay off some debt and I also used it to pay down my student loans. Fast forward a few years later and a few financial issues I decided to file for chapter 7. A week before filing my credit score was at 512. I filed on 9/1 had my 341 10/8 and was discharged today 12/15 Now my credit score according to CK is 783 (not sure how accurate that is) which seems pretty wild to me. And according to my credit wise it is at 767 which still seems like a big jump considering where it was before filing. I was able to apply for a card with capital one and got approved for 6k CL the same day I had my 341 meeting. I feel like I can breathe again. Filing was something I wish I had done sooner. If you’re going through a situation where you feel you need to file then I suggest you do. It may seem scary at first but it was so incredibly helpful for me. Don’t let the stigma of bankruptcy stop you from using this tool to get back on your feet.
