I am currently in year 2 of 5 years of payments for a ch 13 bankruptcy. I recently got a job relocation to GA and now need to move, but I’m having trouble renting anything with an open bankruptcy on my credit report. I’ve tried one private landlord for a house and 2 apartment complexes and they’ve all said my credit looks great except for the fact that my bankruptcy is still open, in which case they are unwilling to work with me.
I’m at the end of my rope with options because I need a place to live, but no one is approving me with the bankruptcy being open, even with a co signer with excellent credit.
Does anyone have any suggestions or have been through this before?
I’m thinking worse case scenario, if I’m unable to find a place to rent to live, and then lose my job, I’ll be able to convert my case to a ch 7 since I’d meet the means test at that point. But I’m not sure if that will put me in an even worse position at that point with having both ch 7 and ch 13 on my record, or if I’ll be able to rent once that is discharged. I’ve heard it’s easier once it’s discharged but I’m just not sure.
