Immediately the trustee said to turn on my camera (I didn’t know because my lawyers communication has been lacking this whole time!) and then when it was on she went onto a spiel about how I need to turn over my tax return if I get one immediately or my case will be dismissed and she won’t feel any sympathy for me whatsoever, and this was even before I was sworn in! It set a nasty tone and made me nervous & uncomfortable like I’m a scheming dirtbag!
My lawyer was present and didn’t say a word the whole time. The next thing she said was that I withdrew $750 just before filing and asked what I did with that money.
I said I had no recollection of withdrawing money and that if I did it was for rent and bills. She said “so you used the cash to pay bills?” And I said yes I used that money to pay bills and she corrected me saying “you used the cash to pay bills?” And I reluctantly said yes. I looked later and it was a transfer, for my rent, not a withdrawal. I got no apology for the tone.
She then asked why I’m keeping my car when I owe more than it’s worth, and I said I liked my car and I’d rather not pay the interest on a new vehicle (I owe 5k and it’s worth 4k)
She was very curt and abrupt for the whole meeting, and made a joke how I had used national debt relief without paying off any of my debts for ~3 years and laughed and it made me feel like an idiot.
Afterwards, my lawyer called to say it went well and as soon as I file my taxes to send him the paperwork and she’d let me know how much of my refund they’re taking. I did so, and the trustee is taking my whole refund even though I only get a refund due to the EIC!! Whatever.
What a horrible process this has been… and at the end she was super nice to my lawyer saying it was nice to see him before hanging up on me.
