I had around $20k in debt most of which was occurred during a years worth of time where I had to have a rare surgery and was unable to work. Sadly bills don’t stop coming tho.
I had a couple family members telling me not to do bankruptcy, that I’m making the biggest mistake of my life, but I did it anyways. I was paying so much in just CC interest that it seemed not worth it to me to keep scraping by to make these payments.
Just to clarify, I’m single, no assets to report so I’m sure that made my case easier. I basically used upsolve to help me with the paperwork and then went and filed the paperwork myself and did the trustee meeting myself (which was way easy and was over Zoom) and today I’ve gotten notice of my discharge.
I’ve never been in debt before until unexpected medical things arose so I am extremely happy today that my health is in a better place and this bankruptcy is over with and I can stop worrying all the time.
I just wanted to say filing on your own without an attorney may not work for everyone if you have a harder case to file, but it is definitely possible to do if your case isn’t too complicated. I had no hiccups personally and I got the filing fee waved so I owed nothing.
I also just wanna say do what’s best for you and your situation. I almost didn’t file because some family telling me it’s a mistake and will ruin my life but now that it’s over I honestly only wish I had done it sooner. I know it takes a big hit to your credit for a few years but being my credit was already getting bad anyways, I wasn’t too worried about it.
I hope that any of you going through a bankruptcy either alone or with an attorney get your discharge. Today has made me so happy.
