Just wanted to offer encouragement to anyone considering bankruptcy but also terrified of the process. I filed Chapter 7 in April after a year of considering and doing my research but an impending judgement gave me the push I needed to file. I hired a local attorney with good reviews and paid about $1500 total including court filing fees. He made the process very straightforward and easy. The hardest part was having to face all of the things I had been avoiding – like actually looking at my credit report and going through a stack of collection notices.

I had my 341 meeting this morning and once my case was called, the process with the trustee took about 5 minutes. I was well prepared but the trustee did not ask me any specific questions about my case and all the questions were boilerplate yes/no questions and answers. No creditors showed up for my case. My attorney said it went very well and I should expect my discharge in 60-80 days.

If you are considering filing after weighing your options, I would highly encourage you to go ahead and do it. The process was much easier than I anticipated and like many others, I wish I had filed sooner. It would have saved me a lot of stress around debt collectors, getting served and general and constant anxiety about unpaid bills.
