Title says a lot but some background. I am a 22f single mom who racked up debt in the last 3 years trying to keep me and my 3yo son afloat after my ex-husband got custody taken away due to CPS getting involved (I wont divulge due to the trauma and irrelevance ). However, I feel like I am drowning every day and I now got sent a horrifying bill from the civil attorney I had hired to help the CPS case. I am set on filing for BK as I can no longer pay the interest that keeps racking up on 5 different cards, my rent, childcare, my car, and quite literally every other living expense that comes every month without fail. I stress every day thinking that if anything were to happen where I didn’t work a full 40hr I would fall behind on rent or my car. I have over drafted so many times this month that I have mentally been in a really dark place. I know that things can get better and that’s why I am looking to file for bankruptcy, but I would like to know what that process was like for others and if they regretted it at all. What were the repercussions, if any? Was it scary? Was the grass greener on the other side for you? I am having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that I feel like I have failed my son, myself, and my family whom I also still owe money to cover my legal retainer fees.
