We filed/finalized our chapter 7, and today we finally voluntarily surrendered a vehicle that we were about $10k upside down on with a $630/month payment.
I expected handing over the keys to feel sad or embarrassing, but honestly? I mostly felt relief watching the tow truck pull away.
We replaced it with an inexpensive used car we paid cash for, and knowing that $630 payment is no longer hanging over us every month feels incredible.
Bankruptcy obviously isn’t something I ever hoped we’d need, but today was one of those moments where I really understood what people mean by a fresh start.
If you’re in the middle of filing and feeling ashamed or overwhelmed, there really can be relief on the other side of some of these decisions.
