Spouse and I filed together. They’re in a bad situation with their car and want a fresh start. Because we want to be careful about running credit, we provided the dealer with the FICO 8 scores for preliminary negotiations. We were up front with the dealer (Volvo) about the time since we filed BK. The salesman confirmed with the finance manager that 15 months was more than enough time and it wouldn’t be a problem. Their scores aren’t bad, income is good with steady employment at the same place for 25 years, and no debt carried from month to month. We agreed on numbers and ran the credit application. It was rejected for being less than two years post BK. I’ve come to find out since then that this is a hard and fast rule with Volvo financing. If that’s the case, why go through the motions of wasting our time? We have worked with this dealership for over twenty years. We had a different salesman who is no longer in sales. I doubt this would have happened on his watch. I’m so freaking angry about this. We were very clear about why we didn’t want to run credit unnecessarily because we are rebuilding our scores with the hope of purchasing a condo next year. So frustrating.
