NC resident of <1 year here.

I’ve set up a couple of free consults to discuss filing Chapter 7. I really feel like its going to be the right choice. I’m drowning. I’m in my late 30s. I’m married, but filing single. My wife also thinks this is the right path, but knows I have jumped headfirst into poor financial decisions lots of times before (a big part of why I’m at this point). What she wants to know is if anyone here regrets filing.

We rent our home, own our single vehicle without a loan (and is worth about $2,500 if sold) and don’t have many assets at all. She only has one CC and has some debt on it, but she also isn’t employed currently. I’m salaried, but so upside down it makes my head spin. So, it feels pretty solid, but she is wondering what the catch is. And she, logically, doesn’t trust that a bankruptcy attorney is the right person to receive cautionary info from.

So, is it really all stories of relief and a forgiving path forward, or what troubles have you experienced. Does anyone have a story of why they wished they didn’t file bankruptcy?

Thanks for all you folks share on here. Its all been very helpful to this quiet observer!
