My petition was filed the end of January. My credit score already went up over 100 points. My 341 appt is later this month. Everything in my life has always been paying the poor tax. When I was younger (10 years ago) my mom kicked me out. I was working a part time job 7.25 an hour without savings. The jobs I had when I was a teen I used the money to buy myself things that a parent should be buying their kid. I had gotten a credit card at kohls and maxed it out. Small little things would happen like getting parking tickets because I couldn’t move my car to one side of the road during winter because I was barely making ends meet to even pay for gas.
Fast forward to my mid 20s I was trying to work on my credit.. but because my base was already fucked if I was late there goes my progress. I felt like no matter what I did my credit situation wasn’t going to improve. It didn’t matter how much I’d pay.
I had to finance a car because I didn’t have enough money to save for one/ buy one out right. Got stuck paying the poor tax with my interest rate. Pay the poor tax for even car insurance.
The reason I’m making this post is because I was on Credit Karma and I had 10 offers for car insurance.. so I figured “why not??” The lowest my car insurance ever had been was 300ish a month. Mind you I’m almost 30 and a woman with a fairly clean record. Ran the quote and I’m at 97$ a month full coverage insurance. Everything. EVERYTHING is based on credit. Even if your actual driving history is stellar.
People will never understand that sometimes no matter how hard you try it doesn’t matter. I’m so grateful for the circumstances I have now and the fact that with bankruptcy my situation is finally improving. I plan on getting rid of my current car eventually as I’m not reaffirming just riding through, and be able to get a car without a 22% interest rate.
Had I known this is how it was going to be I would have done this years ago.
