My bankruptcy was completed in September and I now have more income (got a better job) and less debt. However, when applying to apartments in my area I am immediately disqualified/denied due to my bankruptcy. Some rental companies and private landlords in my area say no bankruptcies in the last 5 years but 2 years for evictions which makes no sense to me.

What are some tips to get rental companies to take me seriously? I only filed because I had gone a year of non payment on CCs due to me being on a payment plan with my law firm. Saving up $2800 was hard for me at that time and once I got my new job (took a year to find) I was able to pay the balance and file. I still do not regret my decision to file but man I have never in my life had bad credit or have been looked at as an undesirable candidate. It kinda hurts what these rental companies say when I bring it up or try to explain.

I’ve been at my current apartment for almost 5 years now and I’m ready for new place. I was offered another lease and it’s my last resort to resign for another year.
