Seeking some advice here. I originally had a free consultation in February. I transmitted all paperwork within a week and stopped paying creditors. My lawyer answers the phone but tells me his secretary will contact me but I have never received any reply from her. I’ve sent half payment 2nd week of March. The final is due when he files.
It’s now April and I’m now 2 months down on a car payment (which I plan to include in the bankruptcy.) As of the 3rd week in April, I’ll be down 3 months and am expecting them to attempt to repossess the vehicle. I understand a repossession before bankruptcy hurts my credit 2-fold.
I’ve called my lawyer at least once every two weeks but he has never given me a date for filing. How long do I wait before trying to find another lawyer who’ll actually file??? What happens to the $900 I’ve already given to him if I do hire another lawyer?? Last phone call – he said, yes – we need to get updated records and start filing.
That was over a week and a half ago – zero contact from his secretary.
