I finally paid off my bankruptcy attorney and now I’m meeting with him tomorrow to go over everything so that he can actually file for me. My biggest question is, at my initial appointment I told him that in my divorce settlement in 2012, the judge awarded me $10,000 from my ex that of course he’s never paid and never will pay. The lawyer asked me to bring my divorce papers to the meeting tomorrow and at that initial meeting had asked me if I had any problem with the trustee going after that money. At the time I said no but since then was contacted by my ex husband, though I know it was his new wife messaging me, and basically threatening to blast me on social media about things that went down between me and my husband, and try to embarrass me to my family, etc., if I didn’t drop my married name and go back to my maiden name. I had planned to do that anyway, but I made them wait about a year before I actually did it. And of course, I never answered that message and blocked both of them on all social media so that they couldn’t see me or contact me again. But now I’m rethinking whether or not it’s safe for me to let the trustee go after that money. I feel like his new wife is very vindictive and could threaten me again, and I of course, don’t have the means to sue them or go after them in anyway, for trying to blackmail or harass me. They live in Illinois and I live in Florida and I don’t know what I’m obligated to do.
