Hey everyone, I’m really stressed and hoping someone here has experienced something similar.
I filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy on February 28 and already had my 341 meeting a few days ago. Everything seemed normal, and I’ve never had any other legal issues outside of this.
But now suddenly my bank account (Chase) is showing a “hold” of about $499,999 and my balance appears massively overdrawn (around -$493k). I definitely do NOT owe anything close to that amount, and that number is not related to any of the debts included in my bankruptcy. Nothing like that shows on my credit report either.
I called the bank and they said it’s due to a “legal/judicial order” and gave me a phone number that belongs to a bankruptcy law firm in Jacksonville (not my attorney). My attorney is already trying to contact them.
Also, my wife is experiencing the same issue — her Chase account is showing a similar overdraft, which makes this even more concerning.
Right now we have no access to our money at all and can’t use our accounts, which is really affecting us.
My questions:
• Is this kind of hold and massive overdraft normal after the 341 meeting? • Is that huge negative balance just a system placeholder? • Can accounts be made to appear overdrawn like this due to a legal order? • How long does this usually take to resolve? • Has anyone been able to get funds released quickly for basic living expenses?
I’m not sure if this is part of the bankruptcy process or something else, and I’m really worried.
Any advice or similar experimentes would help a lot. Thank you.
