My husband and I are strongly considering filing.
I’m getting about 30k from a settlement but we have 80k in debt so even with settlements we can’t pay off all the debt. We are not in place where we can afford monthly
payments either.
I’ve been told we can use the 30k on daily or usual expenses and then file. Just so happens we need a roof and new windows.
I am worried though because the lawyer said they will go after any monies paid to friends and family. We are constantly sending money here and there for a phone bill or a joint present or a bday dinner.
We also have an aunt that we’ve borrowed from and we have paid her back a couple hundred here or there.
So just curious what this process is like.
I did ask the lawyer for clarification and they just seemed annoyed and said well I guess this is going to be complicated then.
