My husband owns a new business and he’s in a lot of debt and low credit score, both due to his spending behavior and his business losses. I added him as an authorize user on my capital one venture. I do occasionally lock/unlocked the car because he will spend it on things that’s not necessary.
Recently, I forgot to lock the card and he racked up my card over limit (~over $10k); another card about $6k; a personal loan $13k; I co-signed a car for him with $14k left.
He been not making payments for several months. He told me his business lost money, he need money for supplies, he will pay me back. Unfortunately, his business is still not making money and not anytime soon.
Now I have a lot of debt in my name that I can’t pay off anytime soon since I’m starting going to school full-time the end of this month and I have one kid. I do work part-time but after rent and utilities, I can’t make minimum payments. I make about $40,000 this year and he’s been making almost nothing.
Where can I find an attorney for filing bankruptcy? If in the future I need student loan, can I still get them? I want to get a divorce for other reasons as well, should I do it before of after filing bankruptcy?
I just bought a car literally last month, would a bankruptcy take away my personal car?
