I knew our final day for objections to be filed was the 29th, so I checked Pacer today, and our discharge order is in. What a great way to end a hard year, and truly start fresh in 2026!

We filed Ch 7 on September 30, had our 341 meeting late October, and discharged today. We were concerned because out income was slightly over the limit ($604 annually), but our attorney filed the rebuttal to the means test when she filed our initial papers, and we never heard anything else about it. Whew!

We were able to reaffirm our auto loan and our mortgage. I know some recommend against reaffirming, but our income is sufficient now that unsecured debt is gone, and this is our forever home. We wanted to make sure our payments reflected on our credit report, and this worked out for us. We have never been late on a payment for our home or car. Funny enough, our auto loan’s last payment just came out yesterday, so reaffirming was probably pointless, but whatever. Our other vehicle has been paid off for 5 years. We also paid the final payment for my child’s braces this month, so we are going into 2026 in such a healthy financial situation.

I feel like I need to knock on wood. I hope everyone who is in the contemplation stage or waiting stage ends up with the feeling of peace that I have right now. Happy New Year!
