This sub has been so helpful. I am meeting with an attorney in person later in the week, but they’ve asked me to write down all my questions to review when we meet. I’m super anxious about all of this and can’t wait so I’m here…

To keep it short – Lots of credit card debt, finishing grad school this fall. I am awaiting my final federal student loan disbursement, scheduled for next week, which includes additional funds to cover my fall semester and a new computer, since my laptop decided to burst at the seams and the repair estimate was more than the original laptop cost! I know it’s stupid to take on more debt, but the advanced degree opens a lot more doors in my industry, and without the credit card debt, I can swing everything else.

My questions – Is the disbursement going to pose a problem if I file after the date? Is it OK to buy a new computer or will they consider it a luxury? Is it OK to hold onto that money for fall tuition? If it’s not OK to hold onto it, can I pay my renters insurance for the whole year and try to figure out other things that are eligible in terms of student loan fund use? I’m in MA if that matters.

Appreciate the feedback!
