I posted this in /raceto100k sub as well but wanted to share my story here too.

In April 2023 I had over $60k in credit card debt, had been without a job for nearly a year, and was living in a friend’s unfinished basement driving DoorDash everyday to make my ~$1500 monthly minimum credit card payments and ~$1000 bare minimum living expenses.

It was a tough time in my life, all I wanted was gainful employment and to get out from under the debt. I hated the thought of filing for bankruptcy, to me it seemed like waiving the white flag of surrender, but after hundreds of applications and multiple interviews, I was running out of options.

In early May 2023, I bit the bullet and filed for Ch. 7 bankruptcy. Life has strange ways, and just a few days after my court hearing in June and their decision to dismiss all of my credit card debt, I was offered a full-time position with a great company with excellent pay and benefits.

Although I wish this offer had come in earlier so I didn’t have to file Ch. 7, having a clean slate has allowed me to save and invest over these last three years rather than spending thousands a month paying insane credit card interest on top of the principal balance I owned. **Today for the first time in my life, I crossed the $100k mark and am debt free!**

I thank God for everyone who helped me and stuck by me through my financial difficulties, for an awesome employer/job, and for a system that allows people to have a second chance. Yes, my credit has been damaged for the next several years, but it’s not that bad. My credit score has already recovered back close to 740.
