I wanted to post about my 341 meeting today in hopes that it might offer some encouragement or reassurance. I am in Maryland, and am in pretty serious debt, totaling well in excess of 400k. 350k of that is an EIDL loan for my small business (sole proprietorship) that I borrowed during Covid. So naturally I feared my 341 might be slightly more complicated. It was not. In fact, the trustee did not even ask about the EIDL loan.

My meeting time was 11AM, and within a few minutes of that time the Trustee came on and got us started. He swore me in first, then noted that I appeared the same as in my ID that he was sent. Then he noted there were no creditors present, and asked me to state my full name. He then asked a series of basic questions like Is the information in your petition complete and accurate to the best of your knowledge? Do you own any real estate? Is it the home you live in? Are you married? Do you owe anyone money? Does anyone owe you money? Do you expect to receive an inheritance within the next 5 months? If you become aware that you will receive an inheritance, you must tell your attorney. Do you expect a tax refund for this year? Have you ever filed bankruptcy before? Has your employment changed since you filed? And then he said he was finished and I could log out.

So it really was no big deal. It took all of about five minutes and was just a series of yes or no questions, even with the extra complications of my case. I was quite nervous going into it, but there was really no need to be. If you are worried about your 341, don’t be, you’ve got this!
