Well it’s been a long road. Here’s a fairly complete log of what the end of our Chapter 13 looked like.

  • Our Chapter 13 plan was 5 years, 6 months.
  • Our payment changed a little over time, but was always between $5200 and $5800 a month (that amount includes our mortgage and a couple of smaller continuing debts that had to be paid by the Trustee)
  • About $16,500 was taken in Trustee fees during that time. I have no problem with that, because Chapter 13s are funded by the debtors.
  • Total amount we sent to the Trustee was about $336,000. About half that was debt, the other half was things like our active mortgage.
  • Alll creditor debts satisfied on April 30th.
  • The trustee’s audit took most of the month of May (they always say it takes about a month)
  • We were released from making plan payments on June 15th (ending those payment was the biggest milestone, for me).
  • The Trustee refunded the surplus funds to us on June 30th (that was another great day. Not a huge amount of money, but it was most of a monthly payment)
  • Certificate of Plan Completion was filed on July 9th, by the Trustee
  • July was mostly a lot of waiting around, but we also did the 522 form on July 15th.
  • There was also some back and forth between the Trustee and the mortgage company, to confirm that the mortgage was in good shape.
  • This afternoon, August 6th, the discharge order was filed. The SECOND biggest milestone, but really the most important one.

Anyway, Chapter 13s take a long time and can be VERY hard to do. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

PACER is highly recommended. I’ve been checking it every weekday for weeks. The stuff still gets mailed to me by our attorney, but by the time I get it, I’ve already seen it.
