Filed in April, discharged in July. A couple of hiccups but overall, a smooth transition from crippling debt to life-changing habits.
We have sworn off credit cards for the time being. We pay for everything with cash. We were able to pay off one of our vehicles shortly after our bankruptcy (as a gift from my dad). Not much was owed on it, about $6k. Still a nice money saver.
My car was put in the bankruptcy because I was upside down on the loan, by almost $15k. We fully expected my lender to come pick it up, but we were so upside down that they deemed it an unnecessary hassle and left me with it. It’s a decent little ride…it gets the job done, I guess. So I may keep it, I may not.
All we have left are student loans. I’m disabled, and I am seriously considering getting my loans discharged for multiple reasons, namely my disability. Other reasons include the for-profit nature of my institution and their predatory practices.
We have discussed buying a home in the next year or two.
Here’s to new beginnings, I suppose. 🥂
