I’ve been in Chapter 13 since April 2026, but I actually stopped using all my credit cards back in December 2025.
For the most part I’ve adjusted to living without them, but the last couple months have shown me some of the inconveniences I never really thought about.
A few life events caused me to go over my budget, and things got pretty tight before payday. I had the money coming, but there was no credit card there anymore to bridge that gap. Definitely one of those moments where I missed having one.
Then recently I traveled to Virginia to visit my daughter. I reserved a rental car at the airport and figured I was good because I had more than enough money on my debit card to cover it. Got to the counter and found out they required a major credit card.
So now instead of having a rental for the week, I’m taking Ubers everywhere. 😂
I know credit cards helped contribute to me ending up in Chapter 13 in the first place, so I understand why I’m here. But I’m starting to realize credit cards aren’t only about buying things you can’t afford. Sometimes they’re just extremely convenient for traveling, emergencies, or getting you through an unexpected expense before payday.
I’ve still got a few years left in Chapter 13, so I guess I better get used to it. 😂
Not really looking for sympathy, just venting and sharing my experience. For those of you who went through Chapter 13 without credit cards, what were some of the biggest inconveniences you ran into, and how did you adjust?
