Hello!

We just had our 341 today and the trustee has indicated they might have an objection to the amount we pay in rent. They questioned it pretty hard, as to why we pay more than the median, and we answered honestly.

  1. We weren’t able to find anything cheaper in the neighborhood
  2. We moved to this spot a year ago because it was cheaper than where we were living before
  3. I don’t drive so we have to be central and walkable to preschool.
  4. We both work from home, so we need a 3 bedroom as opposed to a 2 bedroom.

We have a lease, we lived here over a year. I honestly found the questioning of it absurd as my understanding is the median housing costs include mortgage costs, and where I live has seen a huge boon in housing increases, but there are lots of people in their pre 2018 homes/mortgages probably paying a fraction of what we pay in rent and dragging down the median. The median cost for a family of 3 is apparently $2400 and we pay $3400.

Has anyone run into this? I thought actuals for something like this were allowable. He’s talking about increasing our payment plan from the proposed $100 to $1300.

The trustee gave our lawyer some sass about how he always tries to get his clients on an $100 payment plan, so maybe that beef has something to do with it?

We’re in Oregon.
