A person I considered my “best friend” stole my identity, signed my name to a bunch of his business loans, went out of business and disappeared. I ended up losing my court cases fighting the fraud for over $200k and had to file Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. My attorney wanted to go after him for it, but he ended up having so many liens on his house and other lawsuits that we were at the end of a very long line and I couldn’t afford the fight.
Eventually I found out he lost his house, wife and son left, and none of the friends we had even talk to him anymore.
With all the relief I see being given out to folks who do all sorts of awful and illegal things, I just wish there was relief for Bankruptcy. $4,600 / month is absolutely awful especially when I was defrauded to cause the issue!
We are approaching 2 years in and every month I scrape together enough to pay off someone else’s debt, and that sucks.
