Had my chapter 7 341 meeting yesterday. Real simple after sitting through 12 others. All the same questions for the most part with a few additional ones per filer. I had a few as I owe an astronomical monthly support obligation to an ex ($4400 per month total with military retirement and court ordered alimony and child support; alimony is lifetime – thanks Richland County family court system)… Also had an extra house that will never sell for what I need it to sell for because it’s $30K under water. She asked about that house and why we just bought a new house. Simple answer was our family outgrew our old house and we had the other house on the market 90 days with not one showing and a house with same floor plan 2 blocks down sold for $20K less than what ours did and that house was arguably in better shape. Trustee acknowledged everything and declared it a no asset case and that was it. Didn’t ask about income or expenses. She didn’t care that our house payment was $3.5K per month, a car payment of $1.5K per month and another car payment of $775 per month. Didn’t ask if we were reaffirming or anything like that. Didn’t ask about VA income. A lot less stressful than I had thought.
Hang in there and don’t be ashamed. Bad things happen even to good people. Take your lumps, learn a lesson, and keep moving forward without making those same mistakes again
